Nearly 200 New Zealand schools of 'concern' or worse, ERO annual report says
Education Review Office reports 172 schools 'of concern' and 27 with 'significant concerns', with secondary schools accounting for about two-thirds of that category
The Education Review Office says 199 schools need help for the sake of their students, with its 2026 annual report warning that too many schools remain of concern for too long and do not achieve sustained improvement despite receiving support.
