Google wins approval for Minnesota data center after protests and scaled-back plans
Tech giant agrees to withdraw request for up to $80 million in tax breaks, agrees to monitor wells; project faces three lawsuits and still needs power approval
Google has secured approval from the Hermantown City Council for a proposed data center in Minnesota, following a unanimous vote on October 30 after at least two postponed meetings and hours of public opposition. The proposed development could cover just over 200 acres, with three buildings spanning approximately 1.66 million square feet. The project still faces three lawsuits and a separate inquiry into its electricity supply.
