NASA's Swift Observatory ends science mission after 22 years
Spacecraft, now in low orbit, made its final observation on October 20
NASA's Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory has concluded its science mission, the space agency announced, ending more than two decades of observations that transformed the study of gamma-ray bursts and other cosmic explosions. The spacecraft, now orbiting less than 275 kilometres above Earth, can no longer keep its telescopes steady, and is expected to re-enter the atmosphere in the coming weeks.
