Apple has unveiled its first foldable phones, including the iPhone Duo, alongside a significantly revised version of iOS 27 designed to take advantage of the larger screen. The company did not simply adapt the standard iOS interface but instead drew from iPadOS, which already supported robust multitasking on a larger display.
According to details shared by Apple, the iPhone Duo was designed with a focus on making multitasking seamless. The revamped OS introduces new controls and app layouts that adjust depending on how the device is oriented, whether fully unfolded, partially bent, or in a tent-like configuration. Apple emphasized that the software experience should feel instinctive, stating the interface was built to be "as natural and intuitive as iPad."
The announcement marks a significant entry for Apple into the foldable market, a segment that has been dominated by rivals such as Samsung for several years. The iPhone Duo is being positioned as a productivity-forward device, capable of running multiple apps simultaneously without the clunky workarounds often required on smaller screens.
