Horizon Gold, the WA-focused gold explorer, has released drilling results from its Murchison region tenements, reporting multiple high-grade intercepts that extend the strike and depth of existing mineralisation. The company described the results as a “trifecta” across three prospects, with assays including intersections such as 12 metres at 8.2 grams per tonne gold and 8 metres at 6.5 grams per tonne gold from down-hole depths of around 100 to 150 metres.
These results go well beyond the geological model used for the company’s recent scoping study, which had already outlined a potentially viable open-pit and underground operation. Horizon Gold’s managing director noted that the new data not only confirm continuity of the orebody but also open up new zones for further exploration. The company plans to incorporate these findings into an updated resource estimate and a pre-feasibility study expected early next year.
While early-stage drilling results can be volatile, the consistency of grades across multiple holes suggests a robust system. Analysts following the junior gold sector will be watching closely to see if these intercepts translate into a material upgrade to the existing 1.2 million‑ounce resource. The Murchison region has a long history of gold production, and several nearby operations have successfully transitioned from exploration to development in recent years.
Horizon Gold’s share price edged higher on the news, reflecting cautious optimism among investors. The company remains well-funded for the current phase of drilling, with additional rigs scheduled to test further targets in the coming months. If subsequent assays confirm the widths and grades reported, the project could attract strategic interest from larger producers looking to consolidate in the region.
Environmental and community approvals for any future mine are still at an early stage, but Horizon has indicated it will engage with traditional owners and local stakeholders as studies progress. The Western Australian government has recently streamlined permitting for mining projects deemed economically significant, which could accelerate timelines if the resource upgrade is confirmed.
