Canton Strategic Holdings, a Nasdaq-listed company formerly known as Tharimmune, has announced plans to tokenize its common shares on the Canton Network, with trading expected to begin as soon as Nov. 2, following a partnership with trading venue TSV LLC and SEC-registered transfer agent Fairmint.

The tokenized shares would carry the same shareholder rights as the company’s Nasdaq-listed stock, according to a Thursday announcement. Trading would be available around the clock through an automated market maker, with transactions settling immediately on the Canton Network. Fairmint would maintain ownership records and oversee compliance with share transfer requirements.

The company, which trades under ticker CNTN, has an average daily volume of 757,704 shares, according to Yahoo Finance data. The stock was up more than 4.5% on the day, trading at roughly $2.13 apiece, with a market cap of $170 million.

The announcement follows the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s September innovation exemption, which the companies said provides a regulatory path for trading tokenized US stocks on domestic platforms.

Canton Strategic Holdings shifted its focus to digital assets in November 2025 after raising $545 million to build a business around Canton Coin. It changed its name in February and now holds the cryptocurrency, helps operate the Canton Network, and invests in projects built on the blockchain. Despite its name, the company is not the developer of the Canton Network, that was created by Digital Asset, but it has ties to the Canton Foundation through its investments and participation in network governance.

Analysis

Why This Matters

  • Tokenized shares could enable 24/7 trading and instant settlement for a Nasdaq-listed stock, setting a precedent for other companies.
  • The use of the SEC’s innovation exemption signals a possible regulatory path for tokenized equities on domestic platforms.
  • Combines traditional equity rights with blockchain efficiency, potentially changing how public company shares are traded.

Background

Canton Strategic Holdings was formerly a biotechnology firm called Tharimmune before pivoting to digital assets in late 2025. It raised $545 million to build around Canton Coin and changed its name in February 2026. The Canton Network is a blockchain platform developed by Digital Asset, separate from the company but tied through the Canton Foundation. The SEC issued an innovation exemption in September 2026 that the companies say permits tokenized stock trading on US platforms.

What to Watch

  • Whether trading begins as scheduled on Nov. 2 and the volume of initial activity.
  • The SEC’s stance on further tokenization proposals and any regulatory tweaks or challenges.
  • How other Nasdaq-listed firms react: if the model succeeds, more could follow.
