Three people died in three separate traffic accidents across south-east Queensland overnight, continuing an alarming increase in road deaths, police confirmed.

The first crash occurred about 6:20 pm at Corbould Park near Caloundra. A man who had exited his stationary Toyota Kluger on Bells Creek Arterial Road was struck by a Mitsubishi Fuso truck. He died at the scene. The 30-year-old truck driver from Nirimba was unhurt.

Around 6:30 pm, emergency services were called to Glenaven near Toowoomba after a car and motorcycle collided on the New England Highway. The motorcycle rider, a 31-year-old Adare man, was critically injured and died at the scene. The car driver, a 43-year-old East Toowoomba man, was not injured.

Later that evening, a Subaru WRX crashed into a power pole at The Aspect in Buccan near Beenleigh. A passenger, a 23-year-old Buccan man, died at the scene. The driver, a 24-year-old New Beith man, suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Police are investigating the circumstances of all three incidents.

Data from the National Road Safety Data Hub shows Queensland recorded 314 road deaths in the 12 months to September 2026, the highest among states only behind NSW which reported 356 fatalities over the same period.
