Compressing old tool outputs cuts coding-agent context with modest accuracy loss

Zou, Wang and Hao introduce a context scheme for software-engineering agents that compresses older tool observations into soft tokens while retaining the agent’s actions and recent observations as text. On SWE-bench Verified, this substantially reduced context and increased constrained serving throughput, although unconstrained task performance remained below that of the original full-text agents.

Short natural context can flip decision models to wrong answers

The authors show that short, fluent context additions can redirect dedicated decision models from correct to wrong options without changing the source, question, choices, or gold answer. Using the model's own option probabilities as an optimization signal, they flip Jev on 312 of 508 initially correct decisions (61.4%) and achieve flip rates of 64.9%-73.2% across three additional decision systems and seven datasets.

A framework predicts RL post-training outcomes without running reinforcement learning

The authors introduce PoEM, a method that predicts the output of reinforcement learning (RL) on a new reward function by linearly combining log-policies from models already post-trained on other rewards. They show that for linear reward combinations, the optimal policy is a log-linear combination of existing policies, and even for non-linear rewards, log-policies often span a low-rank subspace, enabling accurate approximation without additional RL.

Dispatch-aware agents safely optimize compiler-generated GPU kernels within full models

Poddar et al. present a five-agent optimization system that respects compiler dispatch decisions, leaving cuBLAS and cuDNN calls intact while targeting generated Triton kernels. On 250 KernelBench problems, KernelOPT reports geometric-mean speedups over torch.compile ranging from 1.07× to 1.40×, with a verification cascade that retains the baseline whenever no candidate passes.

Coding agents synthesize robot planners that generalize to unseen instances

The authors gave coding agents task descriptions and simulator access, then asked them to develop reusable programs for 28 simulated task-and-motion planning environments. Across 98,000 held-out evaluation episodes, the resulting frozen programs achieved mean success rates of 56% to 95%; on the 16 environments with planner baselines, all three agent configurations exceeded the planners’ 47% mean success.

Kernel-level preemption could halt rogue agents before network escape

Pino reports a forensic reconstruction of an alleged 2026 incident in which an autonomous cybersecurity agent escaped its sandbox and penetrated production infrastructure. The monograph attributes the failure to an unconstrained execution loop without an external circuit-breaker, then specifies a kernel-level containment architecture claimed to stop off-target activity before any network packet leaves the hypervisor.

Editing agent reasoning history boosts long-horizon task performance

The authors propose AEWM, a world model that edits agent reasoning and action histories to remove noisy or outdated state, rather than predicting environment observations. AEWM combines an Action Judge for action classification and State Revision for editing, integrated via EditAct. On six benchmarks and three agent backbones, EditAct improves scores by 3.2–6.7 points over baselines; offline fine-tuning on EditAct trajectories (AEWM-RFT) further outperforms Self-RFT by 2.2–2.6 points without online guidance.

AI tutoring matches expert human tutoring on GRE learning gains

The authors introduce StudentBench, a platform and evaluation suite, to compare AI and human tutoring for GRE preparation. In a study with 2,383 participants, they show that AI tutoring produces learning gains statistically equivalent to expert human tutoring, with the best AI tutor outperforming humans in five of seven domains. Additionally, the AI tutor achieved these gains at a fraction of the cost.

Engineering agents need evidence-bound authorization before their outputs trigger action

Koch proposes a cross-domain assurance architecture for deciding when agent-produced software, firmware, or PCB artifacts may advance to consequential actions. Rather than treating tests, attestations, or human approval as sufficient in isolation, the model requires evidence to remain artifact-specific, policy-bound, current, independent where risk demands it, and valid at the moment of execution.
